Morning Dew

There is often significant dew on the prairie plants early in the morning. I caught it with some strong back light this morning. I amplified the texture in post processing. Maybe too much, but I like this. Hope you do … Continue reading

Prothonotary Warbler Taking Flight

As long as these birds will let me get close, I am going to keep taking pictures.

Green Heron (Butorides virescens)

They look more purple than green to me. This guy was out in the open snacking on little frogs. He did not seem to mind me as long as I stayed in my Suburban. Often, they are more motionless and … Continue reading

Poison Ivy (Toxicodendron radicans)

Not a popular plant. This is a photo of new growth. I liked the red hues against the green background. This plant is thick on our farm. I try to keep it out of the plantings around the house, but … Continue reading

Male Northern Parula (Setophaga americana)

This guy is living in the same general area as the prothonotary warblers on my farm. It is a lowland area near a creek and a wetland area that I have created just above the flood plane. I am fairly … Continue reading

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (Polioptila cerulea)

This is a fun little bird that I am seeing on my farm. They actually steal food from spider nests and also use the web material to build their nests.
