Female Red-Winged Blackbird. She is clinging to a remnant of a lotus stalk from last summer. Like many bird species, the female is a bit bland compared to the male.

These birds like to hang out and nest near our frog ponds.   One of their calls is a loud “Conk-a-reee”.
